Tips & Tricks
Roger is an interesting hybrid of Fighter and Marksman, allowing him to hunt his prey from range before becoming the wolf himself and going in for the kill.
His skills encourage his hunter-like play style, allowing him to remain in pursuit of those he’s hunting. His added damage based on missing health when in wolf form also make him a great choice against a variety of team compositions, from tanks to marksmen and in-between.
Roger is fairly durable and his increased movement from his Hunter’s Steps allows him to play fairly aggressively and still be able to escape if things go badly. He will survive longer than a typical marksman, but he also won’t outdamage a traditional marksman. Play smart in lane, knowing your damage and the enemy’s. Knowing when to engage can help you get kills and gain a lead on your enemies.
Items
Despite being a fighter, Roger mostly wants to buy damage items, allowing him to poke at range and then beef himself up when going in to execute enemies as the wolf.
Warrior Boots will afford him a bit of extra defense along with some movement speed.
Endless Battle pairs nicely with his play style, especially his ultimate. After activating it, he’ll inflict extra True Damage on the enemy, making his takedowns even simpler.
Defensively, Roger can build Immortality to allow him to get back into the fight. This can help when killed, especially in Werewolf form, but be prepared to use Hunter’s Steps to make a quick getaway after getting up and go back to damaging enemies at range.
Abilities
The AoE damage and slows from Roger’s Open Fire allow him to be a nuisance when pursuing enemies, especially when coupled with Hunter’s Steps. This can be used offensively and defensively. Slow enemies down and rapidly hunt them when going in for a kill, or slow them and speed yourself away when narrowly avoiding death.
Roger gains some nice defensive boosts when using Wolf Transformation, but don’t use his ultimate ability too recklessly. Use it to secure kills with the added damage to his Basic Attacks via his passive. Make sure you’ll be able to escape enemy retribution, and try to get as much value out of Roger’s time as a wolf as possible.
Emblems
Roger’s aggressive playstyle pairs nicely with the Assassin emblem page, with upgrades in Agility and Invasion giving him even more movement speed to hunt enemies and physical penetration to cut through their defenses. The Bounty Hunter talent grants extra gold for kills, helping Roger acquire his expensive damage items more quickly and snowball faster.
